Users often abandon quizzes before reaching the end. A countdown timer creates a sense of urgency (FOMO), encouraging users to complete the quiz.

Educational Quizzes

Without time limits, it's difficult to objectively assess knowledge, as participants can search for answers externally. A timer enables controlled testing scenarios.

The new feature had to fit naturally into the existing editor without making quiz creation more complicated.

Although the original task was to add a countdown timer, I saw an opportunity to improve the product beyond a single feature. The existing interface lacked visual consistency, and different flows followed different design patterns. Instead of delivering an isolated solution, I proposed a refreshed editor concept with a more cohesive visual system, allowing the new functionality to integrate seamlessly into the overall experience.

The timer is integrated directly into the existing quiz settings, making it feel like a native part of the editor rather than an additional feature.

Designed all key timer states, including the default state, time warning, and timeout behavior, ensuring users always understand what happens next.

Outcome

Designed a countdown timer that integrates naturally into the existing quiz builder and supports both marketing and educational use cases. Beyond introducing the new feature, I redesigned the timer configuration flow, making the editor more intuitive, consistent, and scalable for future product improvements. As a next step, I would validate the solution through A/B testing, compare user behavior between quizzes with and without a timer, and iterate based on quantitative and qualitative insights.
